Abstract

Hepatitis C virus is responsible for over 300,000 deaths per year world wide and in Australia causes 10,000 new cases each year. A vaccine to prevent or treat this infection is not available. The aim of this project is to develop a vaccine that will elicit neutralising antibody and cell mediated immunity against hepatitis C virus. These responses are essential for a prophylactic vaccine to be effective in preventing infection in individuals who are at risk of hepatitis C infection.
